Angel Barker, on behalf of her fellow students attending Six Rivers Charter High School in Arcata, delivered a contribution to the Rotary District 5130 Fire Relief Fund to Matt Nilsen, President of the Rotary Club of Southwest Eureka this week.  The donation of $417.71 was provided by students attending the charter high school who collected contributions for ten days in response to Angel’s fundraising efforts.
“The people hurt by the fires of Napa, Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino counties could very easily have been us--so let’s help our neighbors,” said Angel whose motivation to help survivors and victims of the wildfires was personal as well as charitable.  The Barker family has relatives who lost their homes in California wildfires in 2008 and 2010.  The Six Rivers Charter High School contribution will augment funds being collected by the Southwest Eureka Rotary with total donations now approaching $23,000, according to Nilsen.  The funds will be administered by Rotarians with no overhead or administrative costs and will provide shelter, small business grants, grief counseling and other services to those affected.  For more information or to contribute:  swrotary.org or 707-572-4101.  Pictured, left to right:  Matt Nilsen, Angel Barker, Rotarian Rachael Simon.
